My name is Kristofer Salsborn, and I create abstract forms and quirky, organic characters called WHIMS, a name born out of my longing for the spontaneous and unconstrained.
As an artist, I am someone who needs frameworks, lines, and control. I still paint strictly within the lines of the coloring book, and my works possess a tight, graphic look. But where I am rigid, my WHIMS are the exact opposite. They exude the feeling of being "made on a whim" and carry strong, immediate expressions. They can be furious one second and happy the next. To me, they serve as a reminder that it is okay to show strong emotions without getting stuck in them.
Using various materials, I bring these playful, emotional pieces to life to inject a sense of joy and tactile energy into any space.
The WHIMS have ultimately become my own guiding star. Through them, I get to be colorful, spontaneous, and fully alive. I hope they can give you the same sense of lightness and pure creative desire that they give me.
